Now that Ricky Williams has officially retired, the Baltimore Ravens will need a replacement on the depth chart behind Ray Rice.

While that may not seem all that significant, Williams actually had a large impact on the Ravens offensive production last season; rushing for 444 yards.

We’re hearing that the team is seriously interested in signing former Chargers and Jets runningback, Ladainian Tomlinson.

Signing Tomlinson would continue the trend of employing a high profile veteran backup at runningback that the Ravens started with Willis McGahee followed by Williams.

The team is going to need good production out of it’s running game until Joe Flacco proves he is a legitimate top threat quarterback in this league.

As for Tomlinson, the former league MVP seems hesitant to rejoin the Jets after witnessing major problems in the team’s locker room last season.

Tomlinson isn’t the runner he once was, but still adds undoubted talent to a roster – amounting 729 total yards for New York in his latest campaign.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of demand for Tomlinson’s services as of yet, but it’s looking like whether or not he’ll end up in purple will be more his decision than the Ravens.

They want him in camp.
